I’ve never quite been good at self-praise because I’ve always found it to be a sign of weakness.

I don’t feel I need to tell myself I’m good at something. This is not to say that I get my sense of self-value from the praise of others; I mean to say that knowing my abilities is enough for me without having to toot my own horn.

When people, without solicitation, tell me they’re good at something, it makes me wonder if they’re trying to impress me, or themselves.
